From Innovation Hubs to Essex Tech 50: Arise SMEs Leading Essex’s Growth

Essex Tech 50 2026 highlights growing impact of Arise SMEs

The Essex Tech 50 2026 celebrates the 50 most innovative and ambitious technology businesses across the county. Reinforcing Essex’s position as a leading location for digital growth, the annual initiative recognises organisations driving innovation, creating jobs and contributing to a fastgrowing ecosystem of more than 5,000 tech businesses employing over 20,500 people. 

This year’s cohort is particularly significant for the Arise community, with 5 Arise Members included. The strong representation highlights the role Arise plays in supporting SMEs to scale through access to research, collaboration and specialist business support.

Among those recognised is Muntazir Panjwani, Arise member and cofounder of Vibe Agency, who was named Entrepreneur of the Year. Judges highlighted his ability to grow the business rapidly while embracing collaboration across the ecosystem, cementing his reputation as a leading voice in Essex tech. Vibe Agency were recognised too. They continue to grow as a force in the Essex tech ecosystem, supporting brands with creative, datadriven marketing strategies that drive engagement and business growth.

Several other Arise members have also secured places on the 2026 list, including Aerial Icon, Japeto, Sensore, and Walking Digital. These businesses showcase the breadth of SME innovation emerging from the hubs, spanning artificial intelligence, immersive technology and digital services.

Among them, Sensore is gaining attention for its smart fabric sensor that enables continuous, realtime pressure mapping to help prevent pressure ulcers. Reflecting a milestone year, Scott Dean shared that in 2025 the company secured its first patent, raised £580k, launched commercial pilots and gained funding for a clinical study starting in 2026. Also recognised is Japeto, an AIdriven technology company focused on improving how organisations use knowledge and automation. Its inclusion highlights the growing importance of AI within Essex’s SME landscape, with solutions that streamline operations, enhance decisionmaking and drive efficiency. Completing the cohort is Walking Digital, a consultancy helping organisations succeed in their digital journey through web design, branding and digital marketing. As noted in the Essex Tech 50, it has helped businesses strengthen their online presence, improve engagement and grow their digital footprint across the UK, demonstrating the value of digital support for scaling SMEs.

Reflecting on the recognition, Aerial Icon founder Ekene Ukemenam described the listing as validation of years of building “AIpowered immersive technology from the ground up,” as the company moves from research and development into realworld deployment and scale. This journey, from early-stage innovation to commercial application, mirrors the path many SMEs take within Arise. Aerial Icon’s work combines AI and immersive environments to deliver digital therapeutics for mental health, demonstrating how SMEs are applying cutting-edge technologies to real-world challenges.
